Patricia Mehner Karam is a certified general practitioner, certified obesity practitioner, certified diabetes educator, surgeon physician, and applied nutritionist specializing in the management of obesity and its comorbidities, including Type 2 diabetes. She is full-time professor and the coordinator of both the obesity and comorbidities and the diabetes educator postgraduate programs at Iberoamericana University.

Dr Mehner Karam has been in clinical practice in the private sector at Hospital Español de México for more than 20 years; an academic, teaching various training courses for Diabetes Educators in Mexico, for 24 years; in the Master of Wounds and Stomas Program at University Panamericana for 6 years; and in the Nutrition and Food Sciences Bachelor’s Degree Program and the Specialty in Obesity and Comorbidities Postgraduate Program at Iberoamericana University for 3 years. Her current research interests and work include MINOBES (Modelo de Atención Integral para la Obesidad y el Sobrepeso), nutritional interventions in the amputee population with or without diabetes, and nutrition and sustainability at the Huerto IBERO José de Acosta, SJ project.

Dr Mehner Karam was a founding member of the Mexico National Council for Certification of Diabetes Educators and holds various roles including Secretary of Examinations, President, and active member of the Advisory Council. She was previously part of the Medical Advisory Council of the Mexican Diabetes Association and actively participates as a consultant for the Mexican Diabetes Federation in areas such as dyslipidemia and arterial hypertension. Dr Mehner Karam is also a member of the Professional Section of the American Diabetes Association, a member of the American Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, and an advisor, volunteer, and lecturer at national and international institutions dedicated to healthcare and diabetes management. She has authored two books (in press), co-authored three books, and contributed to several publications in indexed medical journals.
